Pumpkin Cup 2002 results
and Photo Album

The Pumpkin Cup was held the weekend of October 26/27th 2002. Most people got there Friday night and the skippers meeting was held a 12.00 noon, with racing getting underway just before 1.00pm. It was a fairly light day on Saturday, but we got 5 races off. Prize giving was done early the following morning so all could get off home early due to the very light wind conditions on Sunday. Our thanks to everyone who showed up and all the volunteers who helped make the event happen, we had a great time.

There are 32 photos published below from the event for your viewing pleasure. I got more pictures than normal because I was recovering from a broken wrist, and under doctor's orders not to sail.  I didn't miss that much unfortunately.  If you click on a thumbnail, you get a bigger version of the image, use your browser's back button to return to this page.

The Winners

The Open Fleet - L to R:
Don Watson (3rd), Ken Merten (1st) and Brad Staal (2nd)
The Women Fleet - L to R:

The Watson brothers took trophies in each class.  A recurring theme.  The Grand Prize drawing winner (yet again) of a PowerEx 430 mast - Scott Blackburn (well, actually his wife won, but she sent him up to get the mast).

Photos from in and around the event

Jason Collins with the best costume of the night. Chowing down on some great Bar-B-Q after Saturday's racing.
Glenys Johnson showing great starting line form. Bob McCord about to start a heat on his vintage Windsurfer.
Bob Fleming's recently rebuilt trailer.  I'm guessing the only see-through trailer in the sport.  This Windglider rider, Bret Fenster, actually sailed the Open Fleet's course.
Our webmaster showed up too late to race, but long enough to get a quick session in. Don Watson finishing up an Open Class heat.
Jay Clarke (who fell while showing off) tries to get across the finish line before being passed. Don Montague crossing the finish line.
The finish for the 7.5 Limited fleet tended to be pretty tight.  Rey Cardino happy to be racing.
The racers about to hit the water...  They wouldn't look nearly so energetic later. Our fearless leader, Aris Tsamis, pointing out the course during the skippers' meeting.
With a short starting line and two fleets together, heat starts were a bit crowded. Head of Security, Wally Waldrop getting a late start because he was busy checking on the beer kegs.
The Rolling Dog House in a prime parking space...  Fat lot of good the solar panels did that weekend. Like most folks who windsurf, you either have a van or a trailer.
"Chase One", piloted by our die hard volunteer, Kevin Petersen.  We'd teach him to windsurf, but then we'd need a new chase boat. Frank and Dan waiting for the next start.
Open fleet starts were very close.  Aris gets input from each fleet after the first heat.
Aris about to start handing out the giveaways.  Captain Jay Clarke wearing one of the gag giveaway hats.
Lara Collins working on her Jack 'O Lantern. Robert Kearns and Jay Clarke enjoying some frosty beverage.
