Fireant Beach
(a.k.a Windsurf Bay Park)
Lake Ray Hubbard, Texas

This is nothing more than a collection of random shots, mostly from Fireant.
I've put some dates and captions where appropriate (or known).
As is the norm around here, clicking a thumbnail will summon the full size image.

Most of this work is mine (unless noted).  It is not to be used or linked to without permission.

June '05
This is one of the prides of my photo collection.  I caught Jumping Mike Howell on a Formula board with a 9.8.  That's something we may never see again (he says because he's stopped drinking).
Bruce heading out the same day.  Thanks to Steve and Marty at Aerotech, I had a pile of gear to let people try out.
Including this huge sail that I test rigged in the back yard.  How big is it? This Big.

I was the only one who gave it a go.  After that, I decided 11.0m was as big as I wanted.

Al and Mel waiting for wind.  One day, these guys will learn about sunscreen.  I've got pics of Al where he's the same color as brake lights. Chilling out at the end of a June, light wind day.  A few burgers and a few beers - a great way to wrap things up.
Here's the real photographer at Fireant.  Rustin is the guy with all the good photo toys.
July '05
Of course, a month later Rustin caught me hugging on Lana (Mikey's wife).  Nothing like a little post-sailing cookout.

An old picture on a day I was bored.  This was not the first time I'd pulled something like this.

The keg was almost empty.

Heading out to setup the shot.
May '03
My wife (Lynne Opperman) enjoying a sail, wondering what the heck we're yelling at her.
May '03
Max and Lance will stand there for only so long.  Then they'll start dropping that dummy in peoples' laps until someone tosses it in the water.

Another light wind Wednesday night for Mike H and Sharon B.  This picture ended up in a local health and fitness magazine (I forget the name).
April '03
Lamar and me goofing off during a Wednesday night out at the lake.  Yes, that's a full moon to my left.  Our Wednesday get togethers that year were a lot of fun.

Jan '03,
Hey Mike...  You might want to fix that topping lift before you head out.
April '04
I can occasionally get off a nice jibe when someone's watching.  Love that Naish Mana and Madd 135.

Official Fire Ant Beach Mascot - Max. And his sidekick Lance.
Some of the erosion problem that the Friends of Fireant are fighting. Sun's setting.  Time to take the dogs home.
Hanging out at the end of the day. Here's an old lake clean-up shot.  All these people came together to pick up after the rednecks, fisherman and teenagers.  It's '98 or older.  Not sure.
Reid Horn coming in. Lamar goofing off with one of the school rigs.

We had kind of an interesting day on Feb 05, 2006.  The forecast was 20-30.  10-40 might have been more accurate.
I got cold and tired pretty quickly cause I went out with a 5.3 when it was honking.
So I spent some time on the beach trying to capture some moments.
As always, I missed the best stuff.  And the images aren't the greatest because of the digital zoom.
But you get the idea.

The first three pics are Mikey getting a good bit of air.  You can see the launch point in all three shots.  Number 2.
Number 3.  Brad and Ken hauling bacon.  Brad's on a Cross 90, Ken's on a Move 105.  I think Brad caught Ken.
Hang Glider Bob pulling off a duck jibe.  I've seen him do this with a 10.4 race sail.  Hang Glider Bob not pulling off a Duck Jibe.
The 2nd in the series of Bob's blown jibe.  Where's Bob?

In all fairness, this is the only one I saw him blow all day.  And he threw a bunch of them.

The wind chart for the day.  There's a guy with a weather station across the lake.

The peak gust for the day was 41mph.  Now you see what I mean about 10-40.

Brad and his new Cross.  That's a 5.0 Naish Koa I believe.

Brad's lucky my camera battery died when he put on his "Show".  It was a horrendous crash.

Another nice jump (rider unknown).

That's it for now, but I'll probably update this page fairly "regularly".
